Still globally engaged

YPFP hosts inaugural conference

Representing another huge step in the growth of the 5-year-old organization, YPFP recently hosted its annual conference, entitled "The Future of Global Engagement." Held on March 21, the event garnered over 300 attendees, significantly more than expected. The conference took place at the US Chamber of Commerce and, deviating from typical similar Washington events, also featured a career expo as well as panel discussions on global issues derived from YPFP's regional and functional discussion groups.

A refugee perspective

In observance of U.N. week, about 25 YPFP members and prospective Refugee Assistance Program volunteers gathered at the Center for Strategic and International Studies on Oct. 21 to hear Leslie Miller, associate director of Refugee Council USA, speak about refugee resettlement and to learn more about RAP from a panel of seasoned volunteers.

Opinion

A public option for the good of the public

Of the many components of health care reform currently under scrutiny, the debate seems to largely revolve around the inclusion of a public option. Many fret that this is a move towards socialism and the government's inevitable failure to control costs.
