Mark Simakovsky, a long-time YPFP member, was featured in the Washington Post May 10.

When war broke out between Russia and Georgia in August 2008, Mark Simakovsky was a largely unnoticed junior Pentagon staffer. But almost overnight, the 28-year-old became a key policy adviser when he was called upon to provide timely information and insights to Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and other top government officials.

Last week, members of Young Professionals in Foreign Policy were given the opportunity to meet David Hoffman, author of The Dead Hand: The Untold Story of the Cold War Arms Race and its Dangerous Legacy, at a small event in Washington, DC. Today Mr. Hoffman's book received the Pulitzer Prize for Nonfiction. Read the citation.
